Data We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide our services:

• Account information — your email address and password (hashed) when you create an account.
• Payment information — processed securely by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and payment intent ID for order records. We never see or store your full card number.
• License information — license keys and types associated with your account.
• Install events — when you download or install Fog Panther via the install script, we record your IP address and user agent string to understand usage patterns. No personally identifiable information is linked to these records.
• Trial registration — during the 30-day free trial, the desktop application sends an irreversible cryptographic hash of a machine identifier, the platform format (e.g., deb, rpm, snap), and the application version to our server. The IP address of the request is also recorded for abuse-prevention purposes. This is used solely to enforce the trial period across reinstalls. No name, email, or account information is transmitted. Once a paid license is activated, no further trial-related communication occurs.

What We Don't Do

• No tracking or analytics — we do not use cookies for tracking, and we do not use third-party analytics services like Google Analytics.
• No data selling — we never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
• No usage telemetry — the Fog Panther desktop application does not collect or transmit usage data, file content, or personally identifiable information. The only network communication the application makes is trial registration (described above) during the 30-day free trial; licensed users make no network requests at all.

How We Use Your Data

We use your information solely to:

• Provide and maintain your account and licenses.
• Process purchases and deliver license keys.
• Send transactional emails (purchase confirmations, license delivery).
• Respond to support requests.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on our servers. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. All connections to fogpanther.com are encrypted with TLS. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, which is PCI DSS Level 1 certified.

Data Retention

We retain your account and order data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, contact us at the address below.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
